Notice of continued herbicide spraying under resource consent 124871

Waikato Regional Council advises that under Resource Consent 124871 spraying of pest plants growing in aquatic and semi-aquatic locations will continue over the next three months.

Notices of PM10 exceedances

Waikato Regional Council measures the amount of PM10 (very fine particles smaller than 10 microns) in selected airsheds. 

When the national environmental standard is breached we are required to publicly notify the breach and may put in place restrictions on fireplace use. Industrial discharges may also be affected.

Public notice: herbicide use on public and coastal reserves throughout the Waikato region - Coastcare

Waikato Regional Council advises that herbicide may be used on public and coastal reserves throughout the Waikato region from now until July 2027 for the control of exotic weeds as part of the Coastcare restoration programme.

This includes (but is not limited to) the Port Waikato, Raglan, Ruapuke, Aotea, Kāwhia, Kiritehere, and Mōkau areas.

The work will be carried out by contractors in accordance with the Waikato Regional Plan. A spray plan is available on request.

Herbicides which may be used, and their HSNO classes, include (but are not limited to):

  • Associate 600WDG: 6.3B, 6.4A, 9.1A, 9.2A
  • Conquest/Tordon Brushkiller: 3.1D, 6.1D, 6.3B, 6.4A, 6.5B, 6.9B, 9.1A, 9.2A, 9.3C
  • Dicamba 500SL: 6.1E, 6.3A, 6.4A, 6.9B, 9.1A, 9.2A, 9.3B, 9.4B
  • Gallant Ultra: 3.1D, 6.1D, 6.1E, 6.4A, 6.9B, 9.4B, 9.1A
  • Grazon: 6.1D, 6.3B, 6.4A, 6.5B, 6.9B, 9.1A, 9.2A, 9.3C
  • Weedmaster G360: 6.1D, 6.4A, 9.1B

Public notice: Proposed Waikato Regional Policy Statement Change 1: NPS on Urban Development 2020 and Future Proof Strategy update - operative date

Waikato Regional Council gives notice that the Proposed Waikato Regional Policy Statement Change 1: National Policy Statement on Urban Development 2020 and Future Proof Strategy update (Change 1) will become operative on 15 July 2026.

Public notice: Waikato region rating information database – available for public inspection

Pursuant to Section 28 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, Waikato Regional Council gives notice that the Waikato region’s rating information database (RID) is available for public inspection at the council, 160 Ward Street, Hamilton, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The RID contains information required by the council for setting and assessing rates on each rating unit within the Waikato region.

 The owner’s names and postal addresses of properties are available for inspection on the RID unless the council has received a request in writing for withholding the owner’s names or postal addresses or both from the RID.

All requests made for the withholding of names and/or postal addresses must be in writing. Please either:

  • Or post your request to: Waikato Regional Council, Private Bag 3038, Waikato Mail Centre, Hamilton 3240.

Notice of Freshwater Management Amendments to the Waikato Regional Plan

Clause 3.22 of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 requires regional councils to include a specific policy on natural inland wetlands in regional plans. This policy was inserted into the Waikato Regional Plan in 2021 as Policy 3.A.2.

Amendments made to this clause in 2022 introduced additional exceptions to the policy and were incorporated into the Waikato Regional Plan on 5 December 2024 in accordance with section 55(2A) of the Resource Management Act 1991.

On 15 December 2025, further amendments to the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management were approved and came into force on 15 January 2026. These amendments insert the words “or operational need” into the gateway test for quarrying and mining activities affecting natural inland wetlands.

Waikato Regional Council is required, under section 55(2A) of the Resource Management Act 1991, to amend the Waikato Regional Plan to give effect to these latest amendments.
