Maritime Services are responsible for providing safe navigable water ways across the Waikato region We currently have a Summer Student role available based in Hamilton. This role is public facing and will involve engaging with the public boat ramps and public reserves to carry out pre voyage safety checks and surveys, as well as provide Waikato regions specific boating education. In addition, you will be supporting other students to deliver bio security information on inland water ways effected by invasive pests.

We currently have two Summer Student opportunities to spend your summer on the stunning Coromandel Peninsula, based out of our Whitianga office. This role will see you working at popular visitor locations including boat ramps, events and walking tracks, engaging with a wide range of people and businesses. You’ll play an important role in helping to prevent the spread of pests such as kauri disease and exotic caulerpa, contributing to the protection of our unique natural environments.  Our Whitianga team are a small, close-knit team and we often work across disciplines so there may also be opportunity to work on projects on Maritime Safety and catchment works.

We currently have five Summer Student opportunities available at our Hamilton office in the heart of the Waikato. These roles sit within our Biosecurity team and focus on promoting Check Clean Dry messaging at boat ramps and water sport events across the region. You’ll also assist staff with freshwater and terrestrial pest surveillance, as well as sample processing in the lab. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable insight into New Zealand’s biosecurity sector while contributing to the protection of our freshwater environments.
