Waikato groundwater quality monitoring optimistation 2026-08

The Waikato Regional Council (WRC) groundwater quality monitoring programme supports the understanding and management of groundwater quality across the region. Groundwater quality can be affected by land use, nutrients, seawater intrusion, and other pressures, making consistent monitoring important for resource management.

The revised programme provides a more consistent and transparent approach to monitoring through Surveillance and Evaluative networks. It uses a standardised set of chemical parameters and a geospatial approach to identify priority monitoring areas, assess changes in groundwater quality, and evaluate the effectiveness of management initiatives.
