An inventory of the Waikato region’s community-scale greenhouse gas emissions is held every three years.
The inventories measure stationary energy (such as electricity, gas, fuels), transportation (on-road fuels), waste, industry and agriculture emissions, along with forestry sequestration. The latest report has a breakdown of the carbon footprint for each territorial authority in the Waikato region. The inventories compare the results with those previously, and shows how the region is tracking at a national level.
The inventories are compiled following the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories (GPC). This protocol is considered best practice for community-based inventories.
