Soil macro-fauna in geothermal heated soils in the Waikato region

TR 2012/29

Report: TR 2012/29

Author: Bruce Willoughby (Ecometric Consulting Ltd) and Robert Blakemore.

About this report

Geothermal ecosystems are among the most rare and vulnerable in New Zealand and the world.

While some geothermal ecosystems such as terrestrial vegetation are well-studied, ecological data to form a baseline for soil fauna in geothermal areas is lacking for the Waikato region.

This report presents the results of a trial designed to determine the spatial distribution of soil macro-fauna under pasture in relation to geothermal induced changes in soil temperature and pH.
